Dye extract
I dont know if this idea has been mentioned be4 but lets say you got a noob armor dyed black woudnt it be nice if u had some kinda item to extract the dye into an empty vial or just extract it and use it on a better armor you bought? I dont think this is physically possible in real life but this is a game so what do u guys think?

are you trying to ruin the dye economy, all my stored black white and silver dye omg prices would plummet i'm ruined lol
All armour originally came predyed much like your starting armour they sold dye remover at the merchants which was good and gave some nice effects when mixed with dye, but it just bleached out the dye you couldnt use it again.
That was replaced by grey dye which doesnt seem as elegant a solution to me.
There could probably be some magical way of extracting the dye some kind of salvage kit maybe.
That would give a chance of getting the dye back but probably a chance of destroying the armour too.
I would sign for a modified salvage kit or similar, be nice to use it on armor remnants.

Guess people would have to learn form there mistakes^^
yeah it would be annoyign if that happened but then a person would never need more then 5 vials of dye per character. hence making dye incredible cheap and ruining the alore of dye.

Perfect Salvage Kit turned Dye Remover.
Not like the Dye Remover that we used to have. This Dye Remover should actually remove and save the dye, instead of just bleaching it out or whatever.
Perhaps dye could be salvaged from player armor just like you'd salvage runes or inscriptions from something? That might work out nice.

Am I one of the only people who doesn't see a problem with this? Someone explain to me in more depth on how this would ruin the value of dye.

Its pretty hard to see how this would affect the game in the long run, for one thing dye drops are fairly plentiful, well except for the obvious few colours.
I find White Black and maybe Brown rare but the other colours I have between 30 and 50 of each so dont anticipate a need for dye just yet.
Will people only need 5 lots of dye if they can recycle it no way, are you really going to risk a salvage kit on your primeval armour just to get the dye back.
Whoops I got my black dye back but the primeval legs with runes are gone bye bye.
If such salvage kits excisted they would be used on lower level armour pieces and on armor drops "possibly a good way to introduce new colours"
Affect dye prices adversly well maybe a little but would that ruin someones mony making scheme or blow the dye economy ? I doubt it real money is made elsewhere in the game.

People being able to salvage their black dyes before trashing their armor set for a new one creates more supply of black dye in the market, and prices drop. Not that it matters, because GW economy is pretty much dead anyways.

Currently when people use a dye, its removed from the game economy. If they want to dye something else the same colour, they need another vial of dye, even if they aren't keeping the first thing.
So first of all you are increasing the supply by allowing dye to be extracted. Increases in supply result in price decreases.
You are also reducing the demand for the dye because its now reusable, so people don't need to buy new vials of it. Decrease in demand = price drop.
Something to tell you the color combo on an item would be useful. But extracting the dye itself isn't a good idea.

Well looks like the idea is unpopular, in retrospect salvaging dye is more complicated than removing a rune or inscription.
I still like the idea as I think its important to keep the prices of materials moving both up and down.
So todays rarity is tomorrow common item, that way hoarding expensive items has to be done carefully, a bit like the stocks and shares system.
Whoops the bottom dropped out of the ecto market and bones are now the new must have item.
Like the color combo idea

Plummet? No. People would still need at least one dye per armor piece. I highly doubt the OP suggested that the "Dye Extractor" would be completely free, so people wouldn't just swap their black and white dyes to whatever character they plan on playing, like Minipets.

I may be crazy, but I actually like most of the in-game world to make sense. How exactly do you extract dye from cloth and reuse it with the same efficiency? I'd sure like to know :>

Totally agree the game world needs to make some kind of sense to me too but it is a magical game world not our own.
In our world extracting dye is almost impossible without vast industrial processes costing far too much for it to be viable.
In a world where magic excists and people can gain power from soul reaping or change their skin to virtual stone and resist damage.
I couldnt possibly tell you, it might be easy or totally impossible.

I can't possibly see how that would ruin the economy. I've just bough 5 black dyes from the trader, because it takes 3h of standing in Kamadan to get one from a player. So I spent more money than I could have and some people haven't earned some gold they could have. Now that's ruining the economy.

So that the dye prices plummet and maybe people will dye their armour with what they think looks good instead of just grabbing the most expensive dye they can get. I'd love that, if people viewed dye actually by what it looks like not by the price it costs.

This could benefit us all HOWEVER I take it the dye preview is there for a reason and how the hell you gonna exract color from something, I understand something magical like a rune is possible in the gaming world but color makes no sense.
